In June, tobacco was the only industry in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to see an increase in exports, with a 3.5% rise due to increased shipments to Belgium and Paraguay, as 21 out of 25 sectors experienced a decline in foreign sales, with the automotive, leather, and cellulose and paper sectors hit the hardest. The food sector, particularly beef and pork, helped mitigate the overall decline, which has been exacerbated by the new coronavirus pandemic, which has led to a 22.3% drop in exports in the first half of the year. Imports by the state also decreased by 18.6% in June, with the only increase seen in fuels and lubricants.
