Tomatoes: Morocco is the third largest supplier to the EU

Purchases of tomatoes by EU members fell by 5.18% compared to the same period five years ago. Today, Morocco is the third supplier of tomatoes for EU member countries, with 404.99 million kilos compared to 424.48 million kilos for Spain, the second supplier. Over the past 5 years, Morocco has increased its tomato exports to the EU by 38.05%. According to a report by Hortoinfo, based on data from Euroestacom, Morocco is catching up with Spain in terms of the volume of tomatoes sold in the European Union. Comparing the figures from January to October of the last 5 years, we see that Moroccan tomato exports to the EU increased by 38.05%, while those from Spain decreased by 24%. The latter sold 424.48 million kilos of tomatoes in the EU between January and October 2022, much less than the 558.29 million kilos sold in 2018.
