United States President Donald Trump once again defended on Wednesday (22) the tariffs imposed on the importation of cattle and beef products, mentioning Brazil among the affected countries. In posts on Truth Social, he stated that American cattle ranchers "are doing so well, for the first time in decades," thanks to the trade protection measures adopted during his administration.
"The only reason they are doing so well is because I imposed tariffs on cattle entering the United States, including a 50% tariff on Brazil," wrote Trump. "If it weren't for me, they would be as they have been for the last 20 years - terribly!" he added. Despite mentioning the country, the tariff mentioned by Trump is part of the tariff package already announced previously.
The president further stated that "the tariffs on other countries saved our cattle ranchers" and suggested that the sector should seek to reduce domestic prices, highlighting that "the consumer is a very important factor..."
