Vietnam has seen a decline in tuna exports to most markets in January 2023 due to inflation and economic recession. However, exports of processed tuna products, excluding those under HS16 code, primarily frozen steamed tuna loin, increased by 25% from the same period in 2022. These products are the second largest group of exported tuna products. The growth is driven by promotions to key markets, with Israel seeing a 2,283% increase and becoming the second largest import market. Other markets like Peru, Canada, Thailand, Korea, Italy, Mexico, and Chile also show increased imports. The global market price of whole tuna has not decreased, and the preferential tariff quotas are being used up, which is expected to further boost the exports of processed tuna products other than HS16 code in the first quarter of 2023.
