One of the largest U.S. turkey producers is considering withdrawal, as avian flu and rising costs have triggered an industry crisis that could potentially threaten turkey shortages. The American turkey industry has fallen into deep crisis – and one of its most significant players, Cargill, is quietly preparing to exit the business – The Post has learned. The Minnesota-based food industry giant, Cargill – which is the third-largest turkey processor in the United States – is gradually halting production of Shady Brook Farms brand turkey burgers, sausages, cutlets, and whole turkeys. The decision may stem from exiting the declining segment hit by avian flu – industry sources claimed.
