The harvest of almonds, known locally as Çağla, has begun in the Silifke district of Mersin, in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions. The almonds, which are grown organically for commercial purposes, are being sold for a thousand liras per kilogram. This year, the sales started 20 days earlier than in previous years. To boost production, the local community is planning to plant more almond trees in the plateau areas of the region.
