At the 2024 China International Tree Nuts Conference in Hangzhou, Yasir Aydin, vice president of Turkish nut exporter Aydin Kuruyemis, discussed the expansion of the Turkish pistachio sector and its potential in the Chinese market. Turkey is the world's second-largest pistachio producer, with 160,000 metric tons in 2023/24, and has seen growth in both pistachio tree numbers and planted areas. The country's pistachio production is expected to reach 400,000 metric tons in 2024, while exports have fluctuated, reaching 13,985 metric tons in 2022/23. Aydin highlighted the rising global consumption of pistachio paste and pistachio butter and their potential in the Chinese market due to their rich aroma, high quality, and health benefits. He also noted that Chinese consumers are becoming more fond of Turkish pistachios, making up over 20% of Turkey's total pistachio exports when prices are competitive.
