Despite the reduction in salt imports in the first half of 2025, Ukraine still remains dependent on the supply of this essential food product from abroad. Economic expert Oleg Penziin commented on this to UNIAN. "There are attempts to restore the production of rock salt near Drohobych — there is a small deposit there. And there is also one deposit in Zakarpattia. But today, the total volume of salt extraction is unlikely to cover what was lost in Soledar. Therefore, we depend on imports," the expert believes. In the first six months of this year, Ukraine reduced salt imports by almost 50%. Penziin noted that the peak consumption of salt falls in the summer months, so the data for the first half of the year cannot be taken as forming the overall picture.
