Ukrainian farmers give up pig farming

In Ukraine, the number of pigs that go for slaughter has increased, but farmers are reluctant to raise animals. Experts warn of the decline of pig farming. According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, sales of pigs for slaughter by agricultural enterprises in the three quarters of 2021 increased by 13.3% compared to the same period last year. However, analysts of the Association of Pig Farmers of Ukraine do not consider such an increase a positive signal of the situation in the industry. Thus, during the analyzed period, 3.85 million industrial pigs (+ 12.6%) with an average weight of 110 kg were sent for slaughter (1 kg more than in January-September 2020.
