United States calls for limiting EU retaliation over olives

The United States has requested this Friday that the retaliatory measures authorized by the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a sanction by the European Union on its tariffs on Spanish black olives be limited only to products related to its trade with Spain and not with the rest of the EU. The sanctions can rise up to $13.64 million (11.6 million euros). In the monthly meeting this Friday of the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body, which already gave the EU the possibility to impose these retaliatory measures almost two months ago, the US delegation has defended that any suspension of concessions or other sanctions that the Twenty-Seven apply to products other than those related to Spain would be incompatible with the ruling. The amount was decided on October 29 by an arbitration panel and today the authorization was confirmed by the Dispute Settlement Body.
