(Agraria.pe) An ambitious initiative in the north of the country aims to revolutionize Peruvian panela to turn it into a superfood for export to Europe. This is the "Panela Project: Innovative and Competitive Rural Agroindustry", a proposal that, in its second phase, will invest US$ 841,228 in improving the value chain of this traditional sweetener. Piura is the region that exports the most panela to European markets. The project, led by the University of Piura (UDEP), seeks to enhance this reach, benefiting over 750 families producing this input to increase their income and exports by at least 10%. This is articulated with the support of the SeCompetitivo Program of the Swiss Economic Cooperation - SECO, implemented by Helvetas Peru.
