A recent USDA survey indicates that the California almond crop is expected to see a 3% increase in berries per tree, bringing the average to 4,072, due to improved pollination and favorable weather conditions. However, the average kernel weight has decreased by 3-4% for both the Snack nut-grade Nonpareil cultivars and all sampled varieties. The industry is dealing with negligible insect infestations, except in Colusa and Tulare counties, and is expecting the lowest inventory in recent years, leading to a decrease in large shipments to mainland China and Hong Kong, China. Despite this, demand for California almonds is expected to continue to grow, with exports increasing by 7% this season, particularly to Southeast Asia and South Asia/Central Asia.
