The US Department of Agriculture has reported good yields from sugar beet growers, which are expected to offset the low yields from sugar cane growers in the South. The USDA has raised its estimate for sugar beet production to 5.1 million short tons from 5.04 million, and has reported problems for Louisiana sugarcane growers, leading to reduced sugar production. The total US sugar production is projected to be around 9.23 million short tons in the 2022/23 season, which is similar to the previous season and is expected to be the second highest on record. Import figures have remained little changed, leading to an estimated comfortable stock/consumption ratio of 14.8%.
