The United States is the world's largest importer of fresh fruits and vegetables, with Mexico being its primary supplier. In the first half of 2021, the US imported 21.5 million tons, marking a 3% increase from the previous year. Besides Mexico, other significant suppliers include Guatemala, Costa Rica, Canada, and Ecuador. Peruvian imports, which include grapes, onions, and blueberries, have seen a notable 18% increase. Despite being a major exporter, especially of re-exported bananas to Canada, the US has seen a decline in domestic exports, while re-exports have plateaued.
