December pork exports experienced a 13% increase from the previous year, reaching 244,718 mt and becoming the second largest of 2022. The export value for the month was $687.3 million, marking a 14% increase year-over-year. Overall, 2022 exports totaled 2.67 million mt, which was an 8.5% decrease from the year before, with a export value of $7.68 billion, marking the third largest on record. Pork exports to Mexico reached a volume record in December, with a 13% increase year-over-year. Exports to China/Hong Kong, the Dominican Republic, the Philippines, and Australia also saw year-over-year increases. Additionally, December saw a 54% increase in pork variety meat exports, with a 35% increase in export value. U.S. pork variety meat exports in 2022 were the second largest on record, with a record-high export value of $1.27 billion.
