U.S.-South Korea mutual tariff exemption...a positive sign for expanding exports of seaweed from South Jeolla Province.

Exports of seasoned seaweed to the United States have increased by 62%... emerging as the largest growth market for the U.S. Jeonnam Province stated that the export of seasoned seaweed to the United States is expected to expand further as seasoned seaweed has been exempted from the imposition of reciprocal tariffs by the United States. The United States announced on November 14 last year that it would apply reciprocal tariffs (15%) to some foods for which domestic production is absent or supply is insufficient, and seasoned seaweed was included in the exempted items. Accordingly, the price competitiveness of Jeonnam's seasoned seaweed in the U.S. market is expected to be strengthened. Last year, the total export value of Jeonnam seaweed was $364,410,000, of which exports to the United States amounted to $155,300,000, accounting for 29% of the total.
