The USDA has developed a promising vaccine for African swine fever, a disease that has significantly impacted pig populations in China, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. The vaccine has shown to develop disease resistance in pigs within two weeks and in all animals within four weeks. The USDA is continuing to evaluate the vaccine's safety and efficacy in commercial settings, with plans to work with Navetko National Veterinary Joint Stock Company in Vietnam. The agency has also developed and patented five other experimental African swine fever vaccines and has issued seven licenses for research.
