The USDA has forecasted a significant increase in Paraguay's rice production for the 2024/2025 marketing year, estimating a production of 1.28 million tons, up from 1,045,000 tons in the previous year. This increase is attributed to good yields, high prices, and low ending stocks, which are likely to encourage more rice planting. The planned area for rice plantations ranges from 205,000 to 208,000 hectares, with an expected 10,000 hectares of new land to be added to production. Paraguay's rice is expected to have the lowest production costs in the region, and the country's main export markets are expected to be Brazil and Chile, with Central America, the European Union, and Africa also playing a role.
