Since 2017, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has celebrated 'American Pork Gochipo Day' in Japan on the third Sunday in May to promote U.S. pork, especially underutilized cuts like pork loin. This year, USMEF focused on encouraging home cooking of thick pork loin cuts, sharing recipes and tips via retail outlets and social media. In western Japan, radio personality Makoto Ashizawa engaged fans with cooking advice and a video, and his store appearance in Osaka on Gochipo Day resulted in the sale of 1,000 packages of thick-cut American pork loin. The promotion was backed by agricultural boards such as the United Soybean Board and the National Pork Board.
