The agrarian organization Unións Agrarias (UUAA) has warned about the critical situation of Galician dairy producers due to a drastic price drop imposed by the industry. According to the group, companies are applying reductions of 8 cents per liter in new contracts, which amounts to a loss of about 27,000 euros annually for an average farm. This drop in income coincides with a rise in production costs due to the conflict in Iran, which has increased the price of diesel by 45% and fertilizers by 30%. UUAA estimates that the total impact on the Galician sector will exceed 186 million euros, translating into an average loss of 38,000 euros for each of the 4,893 farms still active in the community.
