Dr. Valentin Atanasov has been appointed as the interim Executive Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency. He was appointed by an order of the Prime Minister following the sudden death of Director Svetlozar Patarinski, reported BNR. Until now, Dr. Atanasov held the position of Deputy Director of the agency with responsibilities for the "Healthcare, Identification, and Humane Treatment of Animals" Directorate, the "Feed and Animal By-products Control" Directorate, the "Veterinary Medicinal Products Control" Directorate, the "Border Control" Directorate, and the National Diagnostic Research Veterinary Medical Institute "Prof. Dr. G. Pavlov". Dr. Atanasov holds a Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine and is a graduate of Trakia University. His career began as a veterinarian in the city of Pleven.
