In 2020, Peruvian garlic exports experienced a 51% surge in value, reaching US $ 26.3 million despite a minor 1% drop in volume to 11,894 tons. Mexico emerged as the primary market, absorbing 60% of the exports, marking an 81% increase in volume and 185% increase in value compared to the previous year. This growth in Mexico offset the decline in shipments to Ecuador, which previously held the top spot. The average price of Peruvian garlic soared by 52% to US $ 2.21 per kilogram, with Mexico paying a higher average price of US $ 2.56 per kilogram. There was also a notable increase in shipments to France, with Panama and Costa Rica re-introducing Peruvian garlic imports.
