The Ministry of Agriculture of China predicts that the country's production of edible vegetable oil for the 2021/22 season will be 28.15 million tons, exactly matching the estimated consumption of 36.34 million tons. The main winter rapeseed harvest is ongoing and most areas are experiencing favorable weather conditions. However, excessive rainfall in parts of southwestern China could affect rapeseed quality. The average prices of palm oil and imported soybean oil have risen due to international market trends, leading to a decrease in China's imported edible vegetable oil volume to 7.43 million tons. For the 2022/23 season, the ministry forecasts a slight increase in production to 29.25 million tons, with imports expected to rise to 8.43 million tons to meet the demand. The US Department of Agriculture estimates the production of oils in China to be around 28.79 million tons.
