The Ministry of Agriculture in Egypt has decided to continue importing Brazilian meat despite the outbreak of mad cow disease in the state of Para, Brazil. The decision was made after a 5-hour meeting by the committee responsible for monitoring the situation. The ministry has assured that only meat from states not affected by the disease will be imported. The strategic reserve of Brazilian meat is sufficient for 4.5 months, and there is no crisis in the provision of fresh and frozen meat in Egypt. The Cairo Chamber of Commerce welcomes the decision to continue importing Brazilian meat, as it makes up about 40% of the supply in the Egyptian market.
