A project aims to trade Australian plums for Vietnamese passion fruit between Australia and Vietnam, as part of a two-way agricultural market access agreement. In 2023-2024, Australia's exports to Vietnam reached A$3.7 billion, with a growing fruit and nut trade. The countries are also discussing the export of Australian blueberries to Vietnam and Vietnamese pomelo to Australia. The Australian government stresses Vietnam's importance as a market for Australian exporters and highlights that the trade relationship supports Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040. The trade promotion is seen as beneficial for the stone fruit industry and is set to provide more jobs and improve income for Australian agricultural workers.
