According to a consulting agency in Ho Chi Minh City that has been tracking the aquatic product market for a long time, from late November to early December, the pondhead prices of basa fish of various specifications have continued to rise. In the 49th week (December 1-7), the price of raw materials for the 800 grams to 1.2 kilograms specification reached 32,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram, equivalent to about 9.3 Chinese yuan per kilogram, the highest level since 2022. The price for large fish over 1.2 kilograms was 30,500 Vietnamese dong per kilogram (about 8.9 Chinese yuan per kilogram), with a smaller increase but still hitting a record high in nearly three years. This type of large-specification basa fish is mainly exported to the Chinese market, while the medium-sized fish is supplied to processing factories in the European Union and the United States.
