Between January and August of this year, China imported approximately 1.13 million tons of bananas, valued at around US$592.1 million, marking a decrease of 7.9% in volume but a significant 23% decrease in value compared to the same period last year. Vietnamese bananas have become a larger part of China's imports, increasing from a 31.33% share in 2023 to 40.71% in 2024. Additionally, China has increased banana imports from Laos, Mexico, and Indonesia, while reducing imports from the Philippines and Cambodia, leading to Vietnam surpassing the Philippines as China's largest banana supplier.
