Vietnam increases rice imports, despite a sharp decrease in exports.

According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, cumulatively by the end of November 2025, rice exports will reach 7.5 million tons, a decrease of 11.5% compared to the same period last year, and the value will reach 3.8 billion USD, a decrease of up to 28%. Notably, the rice trade surplus has decreased sharply due to a sharp increase in rice imports. The decline in exports is due to objective reasons such as traditional markets like the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc., reducing or even halting imports. However, it is noteworthy that rice imports reached 1.5 billion USD, causing the rice trade surplus to decrease sharply to only 2.33 billion USD, a decrease of up to 41% compared to the same period last year.
