Vietnam surpasses Thailand to become the world's second-largest rice exporter

Data shows that in the first six months of this year, India maintained its top position with 11.68 million tons of exports, a year-on-year increase of 36.5%; Vietnam ranked second with 4.72 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%; Thailand ranked third with 3.73 million tons, a significant year-on-year decrease of 27.3%. Pakistan and the United States exported 2.76 million tons and 1.4 million tons respectively, with year-on-year decreases of 20.2% and 23.5%. African countries imported 359,000 tons of rice from Thailand, while China imported 332,100 tons from Thailand. Chalong, the chairman of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, stated that in the first half of 2025, the total value of Thai rice exports was approximately 75.57 billion Thai baht (about 2.3 billion US dollars), a year-on-year decrease of 36.4%.
