China and Vietnam have signed a Protocol for the export of frozen durian from Vietnam to China, a move that is set to diversify Vietnam's durian export products and increase their export value. The protocol requires the fruit to be hand-selected, frozen at specific temperatures, and packed in hygienic materials. It also requires the facilities for production, processing, and preservation of the frozen durian to be inspected and registered with the Chinese side. The Plant Protection Department in Vietnam is coordinating with the Chinese Customs to carry out inspections, evaluations, and registrations of qualified enterprises for export to China. This protocol is expected to increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese durian in the Chinese market, attract more investment, create more jobs, and strengthen Vietnam-China trade relations.
