The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Vietnam is seeking to find a market for 300,000 tons of dragon fruit due to China's border closure, with India identified as a potential market despite its distance and export policy unpredictability. Only about 1% of dragon fruit exports are to China, but the potential in India is not yet fully realized, as the country has a large population and a preference for Vietnamese dragon fruit. However, challenges such as inadequate market information, sudden policy changes, and competition from domestic growth of the fruit in India exist. To overcome these challenges, it is recommended that exporting businesses invest in promotion and advertising, build a dragon fruit export association in India, and establish a branch in India to share information and develop a sustainable marketing strategy.
