China is the primary consumer of Vietnamese durians, accounting for 90% of the total export turnover in the first 11 months of 2024, with a 43% increase compared to the previous year. Other markets like Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan also showed strong growth in durian imports from Vietnam. The country's fruit and vegetable export turnover is projected to reach 7.1 billion USD in 2024, with durians making up nearly half. The durian industry expects further growth in 2025 with China's decision to allow imported processed durian products. Vietnam manages about 154,000 hectares of durian plantations, yielding nearly 1.2 million tons annually, and has also seen growth in the export of other fruits such as bananas, jackfruit, mangoes, and coconuts.
