Vietnam's shrimp exports in February saw an 18% year-on-year decline, totaling nearly USD 218.8 million, primarily due to the Lunar New Year holiday. Although the overall shrimp exports to countries under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) increased by 36.7% in January, the first two months of 2021 saw a slight decrease in total shrimp exports compared to the same period last year. The country experienced a significant drop in black tiger shrimp exports due to high prices and stricter food safety inspections in China, one of the largest buyers. Despite this, Vietnam's overall seafood exports, including shrimp, earned over USD 1 billion between January and February, with an anticipated 1.5% increase in export value in March.
