Western Australia's Labor Government, along with pastoralists, has expressed strong support for the live sheep export trade, contradicting Federal Agriculture Minister Murray Watt's call for a phase-out due to loss of social licence. The Pastoralists and Graziers Association of Western Australian has criticized the Federal Government for allegedly ignoring the trade's economic significance in the region, stating it is crucial for the economy, regional businesses, and job stability. Despite the federal government's stance, the WA government believes the existing measures, such as the northern summer export ban, are effective and necessary, and intends to advocate for the industry within the federal government.
