Brazil: Offer rises and prices of watermelon fall again

Piracicaba, 17 - After a few days of shipments limited by the rain in Teixeira de Freitas (BA), the lower intensity of rainfall allowed the resumption of watermelons sales in the region this week (13 to 17/12). However, due to the accumulation of fruit in crops, there was an increase in regional supply this week, and demand did not keep up with the greater volume available. In this scenario, fruit prices retreated on the farm. The large watermelon (>12 kg) was sold at R$ 0.56/kg in the state, 26.8% indentation compared to last week. In Itápolis (SP), the offer also increased due to the intensification of the harvest. In this square, fruit of the same size was traded at R$ 0.66/kg, a drop of 20.5% in the same comparison.
