The pineapple market is currently experiencing stagnant pricing, with good-sized pineapples selling for around 8 euros and smaller ones for 7-7.50 euros in the Netherlands, which is the same as the cost price. The coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns, as well as delays and an import ban on pineapples from China to Taiwan, are contributing to the unhealthy supply-demand balance. For now, Europe and the United States remain the main destinations for Costa Rican pineapples. The melon market is also facing challenges, with the Central American melon season starting too late and the catering industry not yet open.
