A report by the Central Statistical Office for 2019 reveals a decrease in the consumption of bread, sugar, vegetables (including potatoes), fish and seafood, milk, meat, cereal products, oils and fats, and cold meats and meat products. Conversely, pasta, cheese, cottage cheese, and fruit consumption increased. The report attributes this to factors such as supply, pricing, and wealth. The average consumption per person was 91.3 kg of vegetables and 61 kg of meat. Laboratories of the State Sanitary Inspection tested a total of 87,702 food samples, finding 2.7% did not meet quality standards. Consumers' purchasing decisions are influenced by taste, price, and nutrient content, with concerns about antibiotic and steroid residues in meat, as well as preservatives and additives.
