A few weeks ago, bad news arrived about this year's Békés corn crop, but the final result can be considered catastrophic. Hungarian corn growers are having a difficult end to the year, as drought has again covered their plans, and yields have significantly fallen short of expectations. Many could not achieve profitable cultivation, and due to low yield averages, they face losses in many regions of the country. In the second half of October, purchase prices are not very promising, with amounts of 72–76 thousand forints per ton being reported. Reading online farmer forums, one can come across quite peculiar cases. For example, one producer complained that their sunflowers were eaten twice by wildlife, birds, so they were forced to plant corn on part of their land at the end of May. The plants did not grow taller than 120 cm, but it seems that they will yield at least 6 tons per hectare. Meanwhile, yields from "normal" plantings around Easter do not even cover the cost of harvesting. ...
