The article highlights the challenge faced by Farmer Ho Huynh Khanh in finding locally grown agricultural specialties in Ho Chi Minh City markets due to their low productivity and high cost. These specialties, such as green cabbage, okra, and bitter melon, are being replaced by more productive varieties, leading to their disappearance from local markets. Despite the efforts of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the One Product per Commune Program (OCOP) to revive these local specialties, the lack of a proper market and the high cost of transportation are preventing their recovery. The article also mentions the potential of exporting these unique agricultural products and the conservation of local and endemic plant genetic resources through the National Genetic Fund Program.
