The current inclement weather will continue for about a week more, bringing thunderstorms and heavy rain in most parts of the country until May 4–5, said officials at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Wednesday. The rainfall will reduce after May 5 with the return of heatwave, they added. Unlike the recent past years, the first leg of the current summer has grown stormier due to the presence of strong westerly disturbances that constitute low pressure systems originating in the Mediterranean region and reaching the country via India. The low pressures carrying dry and cool wind force the warm, moist winds blowing from the Bay of Bengal to rise rapidly and form thunderstorms, said BMD officials.
