The Colombian agricultural group, Fedegán-FEP, is actively working to reopen meat export markets in Peru and Qatar, which had been closed due to foot-and-mouth disease. The group has supported the reopening of the Chilean market and is hopefully awaiting similar outcomes in Peru and Qatar. Additionally, Fedegán-FEP is looking to expand its international presence by targeting markets in Kuwait, Bahrain, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, the European Union, the Philippines, and the United States for 2022-2023, with potential future access to South Korea and Japan. This strategic initiative aims to further boost Colombian beef exports, which have seen a 88% increase in the first four months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, totaling USD 140.53 million.
