The European Commission has reported a 12% decrease in the EU's poultry meat exports in the first nine months of 2021, totaling 1,126,000 tonnes. Despite the overall decline, exports to several countries, including the Congo, Ukraine, and Ghana, saw increases. However, exports to the Philippines plummeted by 60%. Importes of poultry meat into the EU also decreased by 3.6% to 379,000 tonnes, with the majority coming from Brazil and Thailand. Hungary experienced a 32% increase in poultry meat exports in the first eight months of 2021, with the majority of the exports going to Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovakia, and Austria. The live producer price of chickens for slaughter in Hungary increased by 11%, and the European Commission reported an increase in the EU average price of whole chicken by 7%. The Hungarian poultry sector also saw a 9.9% increase in the number of poultry slaughtered in the first three quarters of 2021, with a total of 174.9 million poultry slaughtered.
