The Pavlodar region in Kazakhstan saw a surplus in potato harvest last year, prompting the authorities to explore potato processing options. Despite interest from foreign investors, including American chip-makers, the lack of legal authorization to allocate agricultural land to foreign contractors has hindered progress. The region is now considering other schemes and is also exploring potential local partnerships for starch and chip processing. A feasibility study for a starch plant is underway, with the goal of putting potato processing in place to address the surplus.
