The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has reported a decline in the UK's wheat and rapeseed production compared to the previous year and the five-year average. The wheat harvest has seen a 20% decrease to 11.1 million tonnes, with both the sown area and yields falling by 10% from the five-year average. This marks the weakest wheat harvest since 2020 due to adverse weather conditions. On the other hand, barley production has seen a slight increase of 1.8% to 7.1 million tonnes, with a shift from winter to spring barley. Oat harvest has increased by 19% to 986 thousand tonnes, despite remaining below the five-year average. However, rapeseed production has significantly dropped by 32% to 824 thousand tons due to a 25% decrease in sown areas and a 9.7% drop in yields.
