Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat production, accounting for 36% of the population's calories and 40% of the food industry. The country has repeated this feat within a decade, with a harvest of 14.3 million tons in 2021, and is now considering becoming an exporter. The government has implemented various measures and policies to increase production, such as contract farming, providing chemical fertilizers, using modified seeds, and implementing master plans for production in drylands. The leading provinces in wheat production are Khuzestan, Kurdistan, Golestan, Fars, Kermanshah, Hamedan, West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Lorestan, and Razavi Khorasan.
