Immediately after the Christmas holidays and on the eve of the new 2026 year, when all of Bulgaria was engrossed in exchanging the old Bulgarian lev for the European currency, for the last time we cast a farewell glance at the past 12 months, which every Bulgarian farmer unequivocally defined as the toughest in the last 36 years. Not only because of the devastating natural disasters that destroyed crops and left a number of otherwise established subsectors of agriculture without income, but also because of the shameless behavior of those accustomed to controlling the schemes for draining national and European funds, against whom small and large protests, unprecedented in our national history, were held in early December, not only in the capital but also in a number of small and large cities across the country.
