Wine production in Austria has fallen significantly

The Austrian Statistical Office has published the final balance of wine production in 2023. Year-on-year production across Austria decreased by eight percent. The decline was even greater in the province of Burgenland, which borders Hungary. The decline in wine production was caused by unfavorable weather conditions, such as heavy rains. Styria performed particularly poorly compared to the other federal states. The production of 190,700 hectoliters was 17 percent less than in 2022. Unlike other federal states, the decline in white wine was similar to that of red wine. In Burgenland, production decreased by eleven percent to 584,000 hectoliters, and in Vienna by ten percent to 22,900 hectoliters.
