Winter and smaller planted area have limited papaya exports of Brazil

The volume of papaya exported by Brazil has declined since June, according to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex). In August, for example, the quantity shipped was just 3,000 tonnes, 3% lower than in July and 21% lower than in August of last year. Agents told Hortifruti/Cepea that the event is due to the lower national production in the period, as a result of the colder weather at this time of year, which slows down the maturation, and the lower previous investments in area and cultural treatments, due to phytosanitary and to high production costs.
