South Korea's government is taking steps to strengthen quarantine management against highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) and other animal diseases, such as African swine fever (ASF) and foot-and-mouth disease, expected to be brought in by migratory birds in winter. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to increase surveillance, change access control of livestock vehicles in migratory bird sanctuaries, and implement a disease control rating system for laying hen farms. Additionally, measures to prevent the spread of ASF and prepare for foot-and-mouth disease, including vaccination and increasing vaccine stockpile, are being taken. Farmers are urged to wash and change boots to prevent the spread of these diseases.
