About 130 kilometers from the city of Córdoba lies Cruz del Eje. Its environment shifts between the Cordoban mountains and the aridness of the Riojano Plains. Crossed by an important railway history, Cruz del Eje is also the largest provincial enclave for the production of olives, olive oil, and is the epicenter of the National Olive Festival. Like many regions of our country, this territory has large agro-industrial productions, but also countless small agricultural and livestock farms. According to a research by Magalí Paz (Conicet) published in 2023, “the small productive farms in Cruz del Eje have farm surfaces that do not exceed 50 hectares in any case.
